About Alexandra Howson PhD

Thistle Editorial, LLC is owned by Alexandra Howson PhD, a medical sociologist who initially trained and practiced as a Registered Nurse. Prior to forming Thistle Editorial, LLC, Alex held Faculty and Visiting Scholar positions at several universities, including the University of Edinburgh and the University of California, Berkeley. 

In addition to teaching undergraduate and graduate courses on health and human service issues, Alex has designed and conducted research and evaluation projects on a range of public health policy, practice and participation issues, such as cervical cytology, child immunization, sexual health promotion, maternal health, and health promoting schools.

A published author, she has written books as well as articles for peer review journals, newspapers and trade publications. In 2008, she co-edited an international volume for Routledge (2008) on Researching Trust in Health, which reviews empirical research on trust issues in public health in relation to topics such as biobanks, maternal and child health screening and organ retention. 

Alex is a member of the American Medical Writers Association and the Puget Sound Grant Writers Association.  She is Community Emergency Response Team trained.
